Athlete Mental Health
Athletes face a unique set of pressures both in and outside of sport. Athlete mental health counselling provides a supportive space to work through the emotional, psychological, relational, and performance-related challenges that can come with being an athlete.
While sport can build confidence, connection, discipline, and resilience, it can also bring intense pressure, fear of failure, perfectionism, injury-related grief, identity struggles, burnout, and challenges balancing sport with the rest of life.
At Rural Haven Therapeutics, we see the whole person behind the athlete. Therapy is not about evaluating your performance or telling you how to compete. It is about supporting your mental health, helping you understand what is happening beneath the surface, and developing skills that can support you both in sport and in everyday life.
Whether you are a young athlete just beginning competitive sport, an elite or high-performance athlete, a recreational athlete, or someone navigating injury or life after sport, support is available.
What to Expect
Every athlete’s experience is different. Counselling is individualized based on your age, sport, level of competition, goals, and what is happening in your life.
You can expect:
- A Safe, Confidential & Non-Judgmental Space
Sessions are focused on you, not your statistics, playing time, ranking, or performance. You have a place to speak openly about things you may not feel comfortable discussing with teammates, coaches, or family. - An Understanding of Sport Culture
We recognize the realities of competitive environments, including training demands, team dynamics, coaching relationships, selection and tryout pressure, expectations, injuries, travel, and balancing sport with school, work, relationships, and family. - A Collaborative & Goal-Oriented Approach
Therapy is a partnership. Together, you and your therapist can identify what you want to work on and develop strategies that make sense for you. - Support That Respects Your Season
Counselling can be adapted around training schedules, competitions, playoffs, tryouts, injuries, recovery periods, and off-seasons. - Personalized, Evidence-Based Care
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to athlete mental health. Your therapist will tailor sessions to your individual needs and goals.
